I was shopping at a store today when I passed by a playground. I saw some children of various ages playing there. A group of girls, I think about 11 or 12 years old, approached me and asked if I could spare a few ringgit.. I was stunned. I said did your parents know about this. They said that they just wanted to buy some sweets. I said don't beg for money from anyone.Ask from your parents. They looked scared when I said that, maybe thinking I was going to see their parents. I would too if I know their parents but I don't.
I feel so sorry for them but I can't give them the money and encourage such behaviour. It's a crazy world we live in and there are crazy people who wouldn't think twice of harming children. Parents should tell the children about the dangers of approaching strangers. Begging is also bad.
I remember my dad used to tell us never to look at other people when they are eating. You know how it is with children, especially when they see other people eating ice cream and sweets etc. They will look with longings. If we want anything he said to come to him and never beg for anything from anyone even when we were hungry.
I walked home still thinking about those girls...
